Message from the Dean

As Inaugural Dean, I am pleased to welcome you to the School of Education (SOE) at Belmont University. Whether you are a current School of Education student, considering a major or minor in the School of Education, a parent of a Belmont student, or one of our many community partners and stakeholders, we are happy that you are here and we are thankful for you interest in our work, our programs, and our graduates.

Like many of you, I decided to pursue a career in education because I believed deeply that teachers have the opportunity to daily impact students’ learning and lives in extraordinary ways. My belief in teachers’ potential to positively impact students is even greater today than it was when I entered the profession. Throughout my career I have seen firsthand how great teaching can change students’  academic, behavioral, and life outcomes. With the potential to be so influential in the lives of students, it is imperative that the School of Education at Belmont provide students with world class preparation that equips them to meet their future students’ academic, behavioral, social, and emotional needs. Our programs have been designed to provide Belmont’s teacher candidates with such preparation, and we continue to work to improve and expand program offerings to better align with the challenges and opportunities of 21st Century classrooms in Tennessee and across the U.S.

We are thrilled that you are considering a career in education and exploring one of our programs to prepare you for your career. Educators engage in some of the most important work in our nation. Not only is their work important, but a career in education can be extremely rewarding. I have certainly found that to be the case. Our programs have been designed with you in mind, and will equip you with the tools you will need to be an effective educator. Our world class faculty is ready to work with you personally to prepare you for the future that awaits you. If you have additional questions after visiting our site, please feel free to contact us. Once again, welcome!
