Graduate Admission to the School of Music

1. Apply to the University

  • Create a BU4U account
  • Complete the Belmont University Graduate Studies Application for Admission
  • Pay the $50 Application Fee

2. Submit Supplemental Materials

Once the application is submitted and the application fee is paid, an email will be sent with instructions for submitting the supplemental pieces of the application. Applicants will be required to provide the following:

  1. Two Completed recommendation forms from individuals who know the applicant's musical abilities. At least one recommendation must be completed by an individual who can address the applicant's accomplishments and potential in the academic classroom setting.
  2. A list of repertory studied in the principal performing area.
  3. A copy of a program from a junior and/or senior undergraduate recital.
  4. Official transcripts of all previous college and masters level work. International applicants with college level coursework from foreign institutions must have their transcripts evaluated by a credential evaluation service such as World Education Services ( Applicants must have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Students who have earned below a 3.0 may be considered on a case-by-case basis.


3. Audition for the School of Music

Due to Covid-19 all auditions for 2021 will be done virtually. After completing your online application, please email all audition materials to Rebecca Dean ( Interviews will be done by invitation only. Please see the information below for more details.

The following materials are required for all auditions:

  1. High quality videos for each audition selection. Please see “Audition Requirements by Program” for details.
    • All selections should be uploaded to YouTube. The video settings must be 'unlisted’ and viewable by anyone with the link. The links can be shared in the PDF below. Please do not email video files directly.
  2. A PDF of liner notes with the following information:
    • Student Name
    • Intended Major
    • Principal instrument
    • The following details regarding each selection:
      • Title
      • Composer
      • YouTube link: Please upload your video to YouTube and provide the link on the PDF document. The video settings must be 'unlisted’ and viewable by anyone with the link. Please do not email video files directly.
  3. Composition students must also include PDF scores to accompany each recording as well as a repertoire list of all previous compositions.

  • Master of Music in Music Education
  • Master of Music in Pedagogy
  • Master of Music in Performance
  • Master of Music in Multiple Woodwinds



All prospective students should apply as soon as possible to complete their applications by the deadlines listed below. Your application must be completed and you must be accepted into the program to be considered for scholarships and graduate assistantships. The deadline to be considered for scholarship is February 14th.

Classical Applicants: Fall 2021 applicants to the Master of Music must submit all application and audition materials by May 1st.

Commercial Applicants: Fall 2021 applications  for the Master of Music in Commercial Music are now closed.
